About Us

Hilary

Originally from the rural west of England, via many years in New Zealand, I am a practising midwife here in the Central West.

Wife of David and mother of Lorelie, Finn & Elliott, we have been based in the Cowra area for the last 12 years.

Elliott was born in Alice Springs, but as a toddler spent much time in the back of a 4WD whilst I visited pregnant and post-natal women in the Mackenzie high country of New Zealand’s South Island as a midwife; Lorelie is a ‘Maungakiekie Kid’, being born and brought up in One Tree Hill, Auckland but now happily resident in Shellharbour; Finn, our youngest, was born in the far north of New Zealand. Whether in the UK, New Zealand or Australia I have worked in both rural & urban communities and in many different aspects of women’s health (fetal medicine and high-risk obstetrics; sexual health and family planning; First Nation’s health and rural midwifery).

In that time, I have developed an abiding interest in the inter-connectedness of mind and body, especially in relation to our physical and emotional adaptations to the complexity of 21st century living.

Discovering the work & techniques of the un-assuming Victorian, Tom Bowen, was something of a revelation to me; from many years of midwifery and nursing I have been able to apply my knowledge of anatomy and physiology to his gentle but effective physical therapy that can address those pressures and tensions of modern life. I completed formal training through Bowen Training Australia in 2019, learning alongside some amazing mentors, in particular Jenny Minehan to whom I will be forever grateful.

I have a calm and gentle manner: my practicing rooms are warm and quiet; both lend themselves in supporting the Bowen technique of gentle touch and careful, individualised, soft tissue manipulations and ‘the space between’ (time given for the body to react and recover).
